Program Overview:

The IMS2017 STEM Experience for Student and Teachers is a one-day event conceived to dovetail with the 2017 International Microwave Symposium. The goal of the 2017 program is to introduce a diverse and highly motivated group of middle and high school students and teachers to the world of microwave engineering. A carefully structured range of intensive STEM experiences has been designed to demonstrate how science and engineering can help address major technological and social challenges confronting our society. The event will include inspirational talks by technical speakers, tours of IMS sponsor exhibits, and participation in a unique set of exciting, motivating STEM-related experiences.

Program Objectives:

  1. Introduce middle and high school students and teachers to microwave engineering and technology through a STEM-focused “day at a conference” experience.
  2. Create student and teacher experiences that demonstrate how science and engineering can help address major technological and social challenges confronting our society.
  3. Provide engaging experiences, such as a tour of the exhibition floor, including high school and middle school participant exhibits, hands-on activities, and impactful interactions with technical speakers and professionals attending the conference.
  4. Help teachers understand the applications, skill sets, and personal traits needed to empower their students to succeed as future members of an advanced STEM workforce.
